Meet the therapist
Julia Kovacova, Registered Provisional Psychologist
Hello there!
I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist based in Calgary and support individuals (18+) and couples. I am compassionate, warm, and authentic and we might be a good match if you:
feel anxious, restless, tense, fearful or worried.
are stressed or overwhelmed, have difficulty speaking up about your needs, or would like to set better boundaries.
feel low, or have been carrying something heavy.
are grieving a loved one or going through loss.
feel like you need to do things perfectly.
want to work on communication, conflict management or closeness in your relationship.
Therapeutic approaches I use in my work:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)
Gottman Method
Mindfulness
In-person sessions are available in Calgary and virtual sessions Alberta-wide. I offer evening and weekend appointments.
If you would like to meet to see if we would be a good match, I offer a free 45-minute consultation where we can discuss the support you are seeking and you can ask any questions you might have, no strings attached.
Therapy services are provided in English and Hungarian.
If you feel nervous about therapy…
…know that it makes sense. It can feel really vulnerable to “let it all out” to another human. You do not need to be an experienced therapy-goer to be welcome here. In fact, I have supported many therapy first-timers. Please know that:
you are allowed to feel confused, hesitant, anxious, awkward, or unsure of what to say.
swearing is allowed, joking is allowed. You do not have to filter yourself. I can be pretty goofy myself (when it is appropriate).
there will be no judgement in the room with us.
I show up as a human-first therapist. If you are expecting clipboard-wielding perfection, you will be disappointed. I may or may not reinforce the stereotype of therapists wearing cardigans.
I will be in your corner to help you through whatever you are going through, in a way that works for you.
Where does the name “Blackbird Psychology” come from?
Blackbirds symbolize resilience, inner wisdom and transformation, which all show up throughout the process of therapy and healing. It felt like a fitting name for a therapy practice.
